Making History Every Day

Posted by Battelle Staff on Mar 28, 2016

Women’s History Month is a time to recognize the many accomplishments of women and to reflect on the role women have played throughout history. At Battelle, we consider ourselves very fortunate to employ extraordinary women who make history every day.

Today we highlight two such extraordinary women.

christinebakerChristine Baker

Christine is a Principal Research Scientist working on applied genomics at Battelle’s Charlottesville, Virginia office. She’s focusing on the development of next-generation sequencing technology for forensics and investigative genetics applications.

Though she started out in life with dreams of being a veterinarian and an astronaut, Christine eventually narrowed her focus with a bachelor’s degree in genetics and a master’s in biology.

“The combination of my studies in genetics and service as an AmeriCorps volunteer in the public health sector drove me to seek a career that would allow me to apply science for greater good. My career at Battelle has offered these opportunities in ways I could never have imagined,” said Christine.

stephaniedomasStephanie Domas

Stephanie is the Lead Medical Security Engineer at Battelle’s Columbus, Ohio headquarters. She is leading the effort for Battelle’s DeviceSecure™ Services – a suite of services helping to identify and resolve potential cyber security threats for medical devices.

Stephanie’s educational background is in electrical and computer engineering and she serves as an adjunct professor at The Ohio State University.

“I am inspired by the smart and powerful women we have here at Battelle – truly incredible women who command respect at work, while maintaining healthy work-life balance,” she said.

Christine and Stephanie were two of the 12 women honored by Battelle at our annual recognition luncheon.

The other honorees were:

• Christa Duffy
• Aimee Kennedy

• Rainy Mumper

Join us in recognizing these women for their contributions and significant impact on science and innovation.
