Recognizing Visionary Women

The theme for Women’s History Month 2019 is “Visionary Women.” Here at Battelle, we have the good fortune of having many women with ability to impact the future with their visionary wisdom and actions. Each year during Women’s History Month, we take time to honor some of our organization’s women who have made significant impact on Battelle. They have been an integral part of furthering our mission and success.

Battelle’s 2019 Women’s History Month Honorees are:

  • Jennifer Brustrom
  • Natasha Sadoff
  • Amy Kiedrowski
  • Tamara Moynihan
  • Kate Kucharzyk
  • Rachel Spurbeck
  • Jessica Schimmoeller
  • Sara Nitcher

We also honored six local, female students who are inspiring tangible change in their school communities. These young women from KIPP Columbus and Metro Schools were chosen for their achievements and leadership skills.

At our luncheon celebrating Women’s History Month, the featured keynote speaker was Shelly Beiting, the Executive Director of the Columbus Women's Commission. Shelly touched on what it means to be a visionary woman and the importance of civic engagement. Shelly also discussed wage inequality in Columbus and how the Women's Commission is working to provide equal economic welfare through policy changes.

Battelle has signed The Columbus Commitment; a pledge to help the region alleviate gender-based inequities. Our CEO, Lou Von Thaer, reaffirmed Battelle's dedication to The Columbus Commitment and thanked each nominee for their excellent work.

“I’m proud to work for an organization that is committed to advancing opportunities for equality, and it’s a joy getting to work alongside so many inspiring women every day,” said Mary Sheehan, Principal Research Scientist and a co-chair of Battelle’s Women’s History Month activities. “This year’s honorees are great examples of individuals who make an impact, who have learned how to turn a vision into reality and who are role models for us all.”
