Landing a great internship isn’t just about boosting your resume. It’s a gateway to real-world experience, a chance to test the waters in your chosen field, and an opportunity to determine if a company’s culture aligns with your aspirations.

A Battelle internship can be a critical stepping stone in your career. It provides a platform to learn about the inner workings of a leading research organization and can potentially lead to a full-time role.

In this blog, our recruiters share tips and tricks for making your application stand out and turning an internship opportunity into a significant career development experience.

Introduce Yourself

You can always apply online, but if there is a university recruiting event at your school this fall, say hello. It’s a chance to ask questions, chat with our recruiters, and learn more about opportunities at Battelle. If we’re not stopping at your school, you can connect with us on Handshake or LinkedIn. This personal touch can set you apart and help you find the right fit.

Pay Attention To The Job Description

We’re so excited to meet you – but remember, we don’t know you just yet! Pay close attention to the preferred and required qualifications. If you meet those requirements but they aren’t listed on your resume yet, take a moment to add them. It can go a long way.

Show Us What You Got

We don’t expect our interns to come to us with a ton of work experience but try to tailor your resume to the internship you’re applying to. Have you used Python in a class project? Tell us about it! Including your technical skills will help a hiring team get to know you.

Your Resume Is Just a Foot In The Door

A strong resume will get your foot in the door, but you still need to nail your interview. Be ready to speak about your experience. Come prepared with examples of projects that can showcase your passion and capabilities.

Relax

It’s easy to stress about interviews but try to think about it as a conversation. We want to get to know you as an individual. This is an opportunity for recruiters and hiring managers to learn about you as a person, not just a worker. And finally, ask questions!! It is equally important for you to make sure that Battelle is an organization you can see yourself at.
