Battelle’s Busy Spring Filled with Awards, Events and Philanthropy

It’s been a busy Spring at Battelle. As we approach summer, it’s worth noting some of the marquis news events that have happened.
The PFAS ANNIHILATOR® earned an honorable mention in Fast Company’s 2023 World Changing Ideas “General Excellence” category and was a finalist in the Water Category. These honors recognize the broadest ideas that have the potential to effect true systems change or solve extremely challenging problems. The PFAS Annihilator was invented at Battelle to destroy “forever chemicals.” Subsequently, Battelle and Viking Global Investors founded Revive Environmental which has now deployed it commercially in Michigan.
Battelle was awarded a Top Workplaces 2023 honor by Columbus C.E.O. Magazine. The list is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by employee engagement technology partner.
Columbus Business First named Battelle as one of the area’s top philanthropic businesses. We were a 2023 Corporate Citizenship Honoree in the Extra Large category and Vanguard winner in Arts & Education. The Corporate Citizenship Awards are part of a larger initiative celebrating companies who are doing good works to make Central Ohio a better place.
At the end of April, we hosted the second annual Innovations in Climate Resilience conference in Columbus. Hundreds of experts from government, private industry and academia came together to share information. The focus areas of the conference include restoring our ecosystems, enabling adaptation of our built infrastructure and societies, improving human health, boosting national security, securing the food supply, and dramatically reducing the trajectory of causative factors. Stay tuned for information on our Innovations in Climate Resilience 2024.
One of our favorite places is the Columbus Zoo and The Wilds, so we were thrilled to be able to award a $2.625 million gift to make a positive impact on people, wildlife, and wild places through educational scholarships, school group educational opportunities, and conservation-focused experiential learning projects. Battelle’s support will ultimately impact more than 200,000 students and 7 million Zoo guests over three years.
Another Columbus favorite is the Center of Science and Industry (COSI), the top science museum in the country four years in a row by USA Today’s 10Best. We gave COSI and its Science Festival a $1 million investment to bolster science literacy and prepare the upcoming workforce for the STEM jobs of the future.
It’s been a great start to the year and we’ll have more big news coming soon.
